On the second day at the Greenview Development & Majestic Realty Men’s Pro Tennis Open, players in the qualifying round on Tuesday punched their final tickets to the tournament’s main draw.
In the tightest match in qualifying at the Texas Tennis Center, Antreas Djakouris, a 22-year-old Cypriot, rallied to defeat Hudson Rivera, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. In qualifying singles and main draw doubles, a championship tiebreak is played in lieu of a third set.
None of the other qualifying matches were close.
In the first match of the day on Court 1, Boris Kozlov, an LSU and Tennessee alum, defeated 17-year-old Zachary Cohen 6-0, 6-2 in just 48 minutes.
“I’ve had some tough matches here, so I’m excited to be moving on,” said Kozlov, above. “It was honestly just one of those days where a lot of things were on for me, and he may have been dealing with an injury which is unfortunate, but I’m just trying to fight my way through.”
Not long after, Nathan Barki of Stanford earned his spot in the main draw with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Louis Cloud on Court 2. A redshirt freshman from Indonesia, Barki dominated all aspects of the match in a similar fashion to Kozlov.
Over on Court 3, Jules Leroux, a Frenchman and redshirt freshman at NC State, defeated Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli, 6-3, 6-0, for his debut spot in the main draw of a 25K tournament. Leroux missed about six months with an injury but credited his recovery time with the Wolfpack tennis team for his return to form and current success.
“I’m glad that I did a lot of recovery with my college,” Leroux said. “I’m happy to be back and playing at 100 percent.”
Starting off the second round of qualifying matches on Court 3, Austin native and Clemson sophomore Marko Mesarovic defeated Rohan Bedlay, 6-2, 6-2. With his family in attendance, he got a dominant win to move on to the main draw of this tournament for the third time.
“it’s my third time coming here, so the third time’s the charm,” Mesarovic said. “It’s my third time in the main draw so hopefully tomorrow I can get my second ATP point.”
On Court 2, Arsene Pougault, a Frenchman, defeated Ethan Silva 6-3, 6-2, and on Court 1, Tomas Tischner of Argentina defeated Arman Zamani 6-3, 7-5 for a spot in the main draw.
Over on Court 5, Poland’s Piotr Pawlak defeated Zac Hamill 6-4, 6-1. The Red Raider senior is into the qualifying draw of his second straight ITF tournament as he qualified and made it to the second round at the M25K in Columbus last week.
“I knew he was going to serve pretty well, so I knew I needed to be ready for that,” Pawlak said. “I got up one break in the first set and in the second set I got a little lucky in the break and then I was holding my serve pretty (well).”
In the doubles, Cleeve Harper, who graduated from UT-Austin in 2024, joined Patrick Harper (no relation) as the top-seeded doubles pair. They won, 6-0, 6-1 over Credit Chaiyarin and Jared Thompson in the first round. –Lindsey Plotkin
