The Austin temperatures are getting chillier, but the matches are getting hotter at the Greenview Development & Majestic Realty Men’s Pro Tennis Open at the Texas Tennis Center.
Matches with local connections start Thursday’s second round. Defending champion and UT-Austin’s very own Pierre-Yves Bailly, pictured above, faces hometown favorite Marko Mesarovic in a match starting at 10 a.m. on Court 1. Mesarovic, the 20-year-old qualifier who plays for Clemson, had plenty of friends and family witnessing his victory in three tiebreaks on Wednesday, the first time he’s advanced past the first round in three years. Bailly is seeded eighth. On Court 5, top-seeded Toby Kodat faces Evan Burnett, a Longhorn who went three sets in the first round. UT alum Cleeve Harper faces sixth-seeded Stefan Dostanic on Court 3. No. 7 Nathan Ponwith, limping after his first-round victory, will face Romain Gales on Court 2.
Second-seeded Duarte Vale faces Nathan Anthony Barki in the second match on Court 2, No. 3 Alastair Gray faces Joao Vitor Goncalves Ceolin in the second match on Court 1, and No. 4 Patrick Maloney goes against Tadeas Paroulek in Court 5’s second match. –Skyler Witt
