No. 4 seeds Kylie Collins and Ella McDonald claimed the doubles championship at the Dropshot Women’s Pro Tennis Open on Friday, defeating Ashley Lahey and Alexandra Vagramov 6-0, 6-1 at Courtyard Racquet Club in Austin.
Collins, a former Texas Longhorn, and McDonald, a current LSU Tiger, delivered a dominant performance in the championship match, securing the title in just 52 minutes on Stadium Court.
The pair advanced to the final following a three-set semifinal victory over Rebecca Munk Mortensen and Lea Nilsson, winning 6-1, 4-6, [10-2]. Lahey and Vagramov earned their spot in the championship match with a 7-6(3), 6-4 semifinal victory over No. 3 seeds Marian Gomez Pezuela Cano and Iryna Shymanovich.
The doubles title marks the first championship awarded during the women’s tournament in Austin. For McDonald, the week continues as she prepares to face No. 5 seed Madison Brengle in Saturday’s singles final, with an opportunity to capture both titles at the Dropshot Women’s Pro Tennis Open.
