University of Texas players Gabriel Debru and Lucas Marionneau captured the doubles title at the Greenview Development & Majestic Realty Men’s Pro Tennis Open on Saturday, defeating former Texas A&M standouts Jerry Roddick and Togan Tokac in a three-set battle, 6-7, 6-4, [10-1].
The French duo rallied after dropping a tight opening set in a tiebreak, taking the second set 6-4 before dominating the deciding match tiebreak 10-1 to secure the championship.
Debru and Marionneau entered the final following a dramatic semifinal victory over No. 2 seeds Karl Poling and Jack Vance, 3-6, 6-4, [11-9]. Roddick and Tokac had also put together a strong run, highlighted by their 6-3, 6-4 semifinal upset of top seeds Zachary Fuchs and James Hopper.
The championship brought a familiar Texas collegiate rivalry to the professional stage, with the Longhorn pairing coming out on top to claim the doubles crown in Austin.
