The Australian Open qualifying contenders all punched their tickets to the quarterfinals. That group includes Fiona Crawley, Mai Hontama, and Kayla Day — the only seeded player pushed to three sets, ultimately closing out the decider 7–5 against Poland’s Gina Feistel.
Top seed Anastasia Gasanova has already secured her Australian Open qualifying spot, sitting at No. 197 in the live rankings. With a title in Austin, she could climb as high as No. 172.
Egyptian qualifier Merna Refaat, the last qualifier standing, continues to grind through the draw with back-to-back three-set victories; she now meets No. 1 seed Gasanova. Hontama faces Venezuela’s Sofia Cabezas Dominguez, who is doubling up today with singles followed by doubles. Texas A&M’s Mary Stoiana takes on UNC’s Crawley in what promises to be a popcorn matchup. Left-hander and former Top 100 player Kayla Day meets Ekaterina Khayrutdinova as she looks to add another title to her 2025 résumé after her triumphs at the W75 in Templeton and the W35 in Southhaven.
In the doubles draw, top seeds Victoria Osuigwe and Alana Smith, along with the Pepperdine duo of Savannah Broadus and Sonja Zhiyenbayeva, advanced to the semifinals with straight-set wins. Austin’s Malaika Rapolu and partner Alexis Blokhina moved through via walkover after their opponents withdrew due to injury. They’ll face the No. 1 seeds today for a spot in the final.
The No. 2 seeds, Eryn Cayetano and Sofia Cabezas Dominguez, also booked their semifinal berth. The pair squared off yesterday in a momentum-swinging singles match — one Cabezas claimed 0–6, 6–4, 7–6(4). Now reunited on the same side of the net, they’ll take on Broadus and Zhiyenbayeva for a place in the final.
