Broadus and Zhiyenbayeva crowned Austin’s W50 Doubles Champions

Sonja Zhiyenbayeva of Kazakhstan, a freshman at Pepperdine, and American Savannah Broadus, a former Pepperdine star, delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, highlighted by Broadus’s remarkable 94% win rate in doubles this season—an outstanding 17–1 record. The duo capped their run with a commanding 6–3, 6–3 victory in today’s final over top seeds Alana Smith and Victoria Osuigwe. Their toughest battle came right at the start, facing the No. 4 seeds, Americans Fiona Crawley and Madison Sieg, in a nail-biting opening round. After dropping the first set 5–7, they roared back 6–2 and edged out a dramatic 14–12 match tiebreak, saving match points along the way to keep their championship campaign alive.
