There’s more at stake than just the second-round matches at the H-E-B Women’s Pro Tennis Open Thursday at the Texas Tennis Center. For Caty McNally, above, it’s regaining the form that had her ranked as high as No. 54 in singles before a right elbow injury sidelined her career. She’s here in Austin on a wild card, and after winning in three sets on Wednesday, McNally, still just 22, takes on eighth-seeded Carol Zhao of Canada in the second match on Court 3.
Fourth-seeded Irene Burillo Escorihuela, No. 5 Sophie Chang and No. 6 Lina Glushko are in action in 10 a.m. matches, hoping to do well enough in Austin to garner a wild card into qualifying for the 2025 Australian Open – and the ranking points and money that could bring. And, of course, the winner of the H-E-B singles title earns a wild card into the main draw of the 2025 ATX Open.
